The day had begun to drift away. The last stains of sunset had begun to fade across the horizon leading to the darkness. Narcissa had finished her homework, and done every possible thing she could think to do. Boredom had set in for hours. There was nothing else to do but go outside. She had thrown her bag down in the common room before heading outside.
She hurried out the doors, holding her hand to her face to block her blonde locks from cascading across her face. She shivered lightly as the evening breeze gently caressed her pale skin. It wasn't all that cold, but she had to get adjusted to the new temperature. Her blue eyes followed the sky a moment before returning to the path that she was walking.
Finally she decided to settle along the banks of the lake. She sat down quickly, and pulled her knees to her chest, laying her head on them lightly. She was beginning to feel a bit cold, but still thoroughly enjoyed what the evening had to offer. Moonlight began to rise, only a half moon, but the light it provided was enough to make her already-white-blonde locks shine.

Why was Bellatrix Black wandering the grounds so late in the evening when most students were inside? Well, the most obvious answer was simply that she could. Of course, it was probably technically against some boring old school rules but Bella didn't get caught. Even if she did, what prefect was really going to get Bellatrix Black, who was close friends with the Lestrange brothers and Lucius Malfoy, in trouble? Obviously not very many, if they were intelligent.
The other logical answer was that she was bored. There were lots of ways for the middle daughter of the Black family to amuse herself but seeing as she did them almost constantly, it was not always so amusing. Beside that, every girl whose friends are all boys that isn't a complete tom boy, occasionally needs time with other girls or in Bellatrix' case, time alone.
Bellatrix was a rather strange girl in all honesty. She got on best with the boys because she could play rough and generally did, but she was also quite the flirt and really to be quite blunt, the slut when it came to the same boys she was friends with. The only girls she ever truly got along with were Andromeda and Narcissa when they had been younger. Now getting along with Andy was nearly impossible and even if she could, she would refuse because 'Dromeda was nearly behaving as badly as Sirius. She still liked 'Cissa, though their personalities were quite different. Due to her spending nearly all her time with the boys, she'd developed a very strong and dominating personality which unfortunately for the youngest Black sister, meant that Bellatrix was quite certain that she knew exactly how Narcissa should behave and would often loudly voice this opinion.
Bellatrix liked being outside later in the evening. The grounds were much prettier late at night. The darkness suited her, with her thick jet black hair, dark gray eyes, and somewhat pale complexion. She blended in far easier than her younger sister with her bright blond hair, especially as she was wearing a thin black cloak over her school robes. She didn't really need the cloak as she liked cool weather but upon impulse, had slipped it on before heading outside.
It took several minutes before she noted that there was indeed someone else outside, enjoying the beautiful night. Her immediate reaction had been to reach for her wand. However, on closer inspection, she noted that it was in fact her darling baby sister. She smirked slightly as she walked over to the girl who was curled up on the ground.
"Evening, Cissa, darling," she greeted her sister with a light smile. She was in a surprisingly good mood this evening, mostly thanks to the weather. Speaking of the weather, Narcissa did not look quite comfortable. "Cold?" she questioned. Although she had meant to sound somewhat concerned, the question had come off as rather arrogant. She untied her cloak from around her neck before slipping it off her shoulders and lazily offering it to the other girl.
Bellatrix in her own twisted little way, did care about her sister. She was just absolutely rubbish at showing it the way a normal human being did. She was not bothered by this fact though, as she had no desire to be anything like a normal human being. She was Bellatrix Black and that made all of her strange habits and lack of morals perfectly acceptable as far as she was concerned.

Narcissa had sort of zoned out not paying any attention to the fact that her sister was approaching until she spoke. She turned her head slowly, knowing simply by her sisters voice that it was her. Well of course she would know her own sister's voice. She returned the light smile. Obviously Bella was in a good mood. "'Evening."she said simply her eyes returning to the sky momentarily before looking back to Bella.
She gladly accepted the cloak. Cissy had been rather absentminded and had forgotten her own cloak. "Good mood eh?"she commented. To most people, inquiring of their mood was simply rude, but with Bella, she was quite obviously in a good mood, and she probably wouldn't even respond to the comment. It was a decent night, but nothing to be happy about. There had to be a reason. Bella was rarely in a "good" mood.
Narcissa raised her eyebrows slightly towards her sister. She had always been a bit closer to Bella, just simply because they were in the same house at hogwarts. She told Bella everything, well most thing, and she usually returned with stuff about her own life. She rarely told things to Andy, well that were of any importance anyways.
"Any reason for this good mood?" She finally asked after a few seconds of silence fell between them. She knew Bella could have moodswings, but honestly she was hoping there was some reason for the good mood. She was desperate to hear some sort of interesting story or gossip. Gossip wasn't exactly her thing, but she did enjoy hearing the latest "news" about certain people.

Bellatrix quite liked her sister when Cissy when they were alone. When other people were around though, things tended to get a bit more complicated. She didn't mind her younger sister when they were around the Slytherin boys but sometimes she got the feeling the younger sister did not like hanging out with the boys nearly as much as she did. Narcissa seemed to get along with girls. Bellatrix did not, at all, other than Cissa of course.
"Not so much good as amused," Bellatrix replied, looking out at the water, rather than at her sister. She smirked mysteriously and didn't say anything more for the moment. She was still having a hard time believing how absolutely ridiculous all of this arranged marriage stuff was. She had decided that she probably was getting the best deal out of all of them, not that there was anything at all wrong with Lucius or Rodolphus.
Bellatrix did tell Narcissa pretty much everything, though she usually spared her the more gruesome details of her all too active sex life which she instead imparted to Andromeda, purely to anger the girl. It was just too easy. Bellatrix knew how to get along with her sisters and exactly how to piss them off. That's what happens when you spend as much time together as they had. She rarely if ever felt the need to piss of Narcissa. Andromeda of course was an entirely different story though.
"Oh yes," she replied, still grinning and refusing to look directly at the other girl. Bellatrix thoroughly enjoyed when she had information that Narcissa did not, as the younger girl was generally much more up to date on the gossip of Hogwarts. "A little birdie.. or should I say a little rabbit," she assumed Cissa would understand the reference to Rabastan's nickname, "told me something very intriguing."
She paused here, for dramatic purposes naturally. "'Dromeda's going to be furious, I cannot wait to see the bloody look on her face when I tell her," Bellatrix grinned sadistically before suddenly turning towards Narcissa. "You have to swear you won't tell her," she demanded. The middle daughter could not have her younger sister spoiling the surprise for their big sister. Narcissa wouldn't find it nearly as funny as Bellatrix would.
She turned away from Cissa again and stared out at the water once again. "As I was saying, this little rabbit told me that Mother and Father made some very interesting arrangements that they have yet to tell us about, though I dare say we ought to have been informed immediately," she laughed softly. "After all, it's not everyday that you find out that your parents have already arranged marriages for all three of their darling daughters." Of course, Bella would decide to leave out the most important details such as to whom they were betrothed out for the moment.

Narcissa listened although she figured this "amusing" thing probably had nothing to do with her, and probably was something she really didn't need nor want to know, but hey she could use something entertaining. But knowing her difference in taste, it was most likely not going to be amusing. She had looked off a moment not watching her sister, but slowly turned towards her as she spoke.
She raised her eyebrows at the pauses, wishing Bella would just spit it out already. She had a habit of rambling, although she figured bella had always done it purposely, it was extremely annoying. Narcissa had always been who had to have what she wanted when she wanted it. She listened intently as she heard of rabbit. Of course Rabastan, she held herself back from rolling her eyes. He was rather annoying as it was, then he was her sisters little slave, he did practically everything for Bella.
She sent a sot of "go on" look to her sister waiting her to spit out something useful. Then she went on about Andromda. Cissy actually rolled her eyes in an "im not going to tell her so shut up already" fashion. She was so busy not really paying attention to Bella she almost missed the last part. "Wait what?"Her voice completely serious this time.
Arranged marriages? Narcissa barely had many boyfriends, let alone even thought about marriage. She was a bit unlike her sister in the fact that she secretly hoped to find a sort of 'fairy tale' romance. She had hidden her secret desire well, but now it seemed to all crash and burn. An arranged marriage was crazy talk! Cissy didn't want to accept it. Then the most important variable seemed to smack her in the head. To whom was she betrothed to? "To who?"She asked. The short silence had been broken by her now demanding tone.

Bellatrix's rambling was of course designed solely for the purpose of slightly annoying her younger sister. She would never try to really piss her off, but occasionally aggravating her like this was perfectly acceptable as far as she was concerned. After all, it was a rare occurrence when the middle daughter of the Black family had a secret that Narcissa was not already aware of, which in her mind, made it perfectly alright to ramble on inanely and take long pauses in between her statements.
Ms. Black was of course, aware that her sister was far less fond of Rabbit than she was. It took a certain type of person to get along with Rabastan, to be more precise it took a person like Bellatrix, who was borderline insane, overly sexual, and too vain to ever get jealous or offended. Though Rabs did tend to cater to her will more than he did to others, Bella never really thought of him as her slave (unless of course he told her to, which always led to a very interesting night). He was one of the few people who she considered her equal. That list was indeed very short. She could count all of the people on one hand: Rodolphus, Rabastan, Lucius, and Narcissa.
She understood perfectly the looks her little sister was giving her to hurry up and to silently consent not to tell Andy. Bella was really looking forward to telling Andy. She could barely imagine how utterly furious the girl would be. A part of her hoped that the older girl would accept it and be happy with Rod. Bellatrix could vouch for the older Lestrange brother. He'd be good for her, or rather, he would be if she thought more like Bellatrix.
"Yes, darling sister, you heard me properly," she replied, clearly even more amused by the younger girl's reaction. "All three of us have been promised in marriage to three very attractive, rich, purebloods." Bellatrix purposely left out their names, well aware that Narcissa would be furious if she didn't give her the full story soon.
Bellatrix laughed softly when Narcissa finally demanded to know who she was going to have to marry. "Well, this one is personally my favorite, our darling big sister has been promised to" she shook her head, a dark smile on her lips. "Rodolphus Lestrange." Were she the slightly more girly type, she would have dissolved into a fit of giggles right about now. "Andy's going to freak."
"Amusingly enough, apparently I'm betrothed to Rabbit," she added, purposely going in order by age so that Narcissa would be the last. "That's why I found out actually. We were in the common room... well, acting like we always do," Bella generally avoided talking about exactly what she and Rabastan do around her younger sister as it was much more fun to harass Andy with that knowledge. "And that Armstrong bitch came in acting all bloody high and mighty insisting that we go get a room. We got into a bit of an argument and I told her something about how the first years were never going to learn if they don't know, well you know," she waved her hand vaguely, dismissing the need for further explanation. "So anyway, then Little Lestrange just turned to her and said, that it was okay, we were betrothed." She laughed again. "I can't say I'm at all disappointed but I was certainly surprised, so naturally I questioned him about it further and found out about Andromeda and Rodolphus."
Bellatrix paused before turning slightly more towards her sister and sitting down. She smirked and looked up at the sky before turning her attention back to her little sister. "And you and Lucius Malfoy," she added casually.

Narcissa waited as patient as possible. She listened to her sister continue to go on. The first betrothal was announced. Andromeda and Rudolphus. Narcissa had to keep in laughter at this point. She knew Andromeda would strongly object, and based on what she knew about Rudolphus, he would probably have objections to a ravenclaw.
The second betrothal was announced, not much of a surprise. Bella and Rabbit had well... been together alot... although not in the sense of actual dating. Cissy couldn't really define her sister's relationship, if you'd call it that. They'd both probably be happy. Cissy couldn't now help but to wonder whom she was betrothed to.. The Lestrange brothers weren't much of a surprise as their family was rather tight with the Black's but there were no other Lestrange siblings. Who could her parents possibly wish for her to marry?
She watched her sister intently as she mentioned Adela. The one thing Bella did not know of Cissy...her friendship with Adela, whom was nearly an enemy to Bella. She had a certain feeling that Adela would not like the idea of a betrothal between Bella and Rabastan, but she kept her thoughts to herself, not wanting Bella to find out about her friendship with Adela, as that would end rather badly. She gave her one more "hurry up" look. She was simply dying to know who she was betrothed to.
She became more irritated at the pause, knowing it was coming as Bella sat down. Lucius Malfoy Narcissa's jaw dropped lightly. "Him?!?" Her voice was smothered in disbelief, not sure if it was a good thing or not. As far as things went for her and Lucius, they didn't exactly hate eachother, but they weren't exactly fond of eachother either. She believed he was too arrogant, although she didn't know him as well as Bella did.

Bellatrix smirked when she noted that Narcissa looked like she wanted to laugh. "Now you see why I am ever so excited to inform her," she explained, "And besides, she might get murderous and no offense love, but I think it'd be better if I have to deal with that." Ms. Black was being honest but really, she was more concerned about getting to see Andy's reaction than sparing Cissa from their elder sister's anger. That was just an added bonus.
To be entirely honest, Bellatrix had given very little consideration to Rodolphus' reaction to all of these marriages, especially since his future wife was a Ravenclaw and borderline bloodtraitor. She assumed that as long as they got Andy to do it, he'd be able to change her though. Rod was a good guy, well not good by most people's standards. He was good by Bellatrix standards. She may not be the best judge of character by any means but she knew these boys better than anyone.
"I can't believe this whole arranged marriage thing worked out so well for me," Bellatrix replied. "Of course, I suppose if Rabbit has known the whole time then really, I should probably be angry that he didn't tell me but really I could care less," she explained with a shrug. She had of course had a lot of questions about all of this, most of which she'd already asked but the rest of which she'd get out of Rabbit as soon as possible.
It was most certainly the best for everyone involved that Bellatrix was not aware of Narcissa's friendship with Adela, as she would strictly forbid it. As far as she'd be concerned, that would be betrayal. Her younger sister was the only girl she got along with and she would never stand for her being friends with one of her arch-rivals.
"Yes, him," she responded, grinning slightly. "So... what do you think?" she questioned. "You can tell me love, I know the two of you better than anyone and I am not at all worried about it." Bellatrix hoped that Narcissa would be happy about it, as she thought they'd be quite a good couple. It might take a bit of work but still, it'd be a lot easier than Andy and Rod.

Narcissa payed no more attention to Bellatrix's rambling about Rabastan. She was too preoccupied with her own thoughts. Marriage? She was fifteen. Marriage hadn't crossed her mind since she was little and had dreamed of a perfect wedding. Fifteen meant time to date loads of guys, and not have to worry about actually committing. You could say she had commitment issues, but she never really had any serious relationships. She wasn't sure how she should feel about this. An arranged marriage? It seemed rather ridiculous but it was something she was going to have to do. She wasn't like Andromeda, she worried about family status and pure lines.
She barely knew Lucius. He was Bellatrix's friend. Now she was going to have to spend the rest of her life with him? This was all too much for her to comprehend. She looked up rather quickly as Bellatrix asked what she thought. "I...uh.. I don't know.."she said rather honestly. She had never had the time to really get to know Lucius, as far as she was concerned, he was just her sister's friend. Sure he was rather handsome, but did he know about these arrangements? Did he have any interest in Cissy whatsoever?
"Do they know about these arrangements?" She asked suddenly. Its not like she was going to go up to him and say, "Oh so, about the betrothal..." She had no idea what she'd even say when she saw him. If he knew about this before how come he never approached her? They had only had a few conversations. This was the only thing that worried Cissy. She wanted a marriage of love, not just of status and good blood. She wanted all of it combined. It had been a childhood dream, as for most girls, to find true love, the richest prince, the most handsome, and live happily ever after. She wanted to speak this, but she figured Bella probably couldn't relate.

Bellatrix was quite glad that Narcissa was handling this information so well. It only proved that Narcissa was much more like Bellatrix than Andromeda. She would have to point this out to their older sister when she did tell her about everything. Though maybe she would save that for another encounter. Andy was liable to be angry enough not to care then whether 'Cissa was more on Bella's side or not.
Bellatrix nodded when Narcissa said she wasn't sure what she thought. "It is quite a surprise, I suppose," Bella admitted. "I mean sure, it's something that when I really think about it, I have no problem believing they'd do something like this. It's just weird to think that we're all definitely getting married and that it's been arranged for years... I really did luck out as I suppose I'm the only one who is already friends, well more than friends, with my future husband," she laughed softly at the absurdity of the whole thing.
"Yes," she replied with a slight nod."The guys have known since they were all thirteen. Those stupid prats have known for four bloody years and didn't tell me. Really, I ought to kill them." Of course, Bella would never actually kill the boys, they were her three closest friends, aside from Cissa. She would at some point, confront them about this keeping secrets from her though. It was definitely not allowed, ever again.
"If you want my opinion," Bella offered. "I think you two will make a lovely couple," she laughed. "Merlin, that sounds so ridiculous. "At any rate, Lucius is a good guy. Despite whatever I may tell Rabbit, I swear to you, I've never shagged him. So unfortunately, I can't warn you about anything with that, or maybe fortunately." She shrugged as she looked out at the water. She smiled devilishly. "I can't say the same for Rod though... If Andy isn't stupid, she won't be disappointed, if you catch my drift."

Narcissa was still a bit preoccupied with thoughts. She wasn't quite sure exactly tell her sister. Bellatrix had known Lucius for awhile, Narcissa trusted her judgment to some extent, but was still a bit unsure about this all. She obviously knew she had no more choice in the matter, unlike Andromeda, she could not let her family down, she would have to go through with it no matter what.
The part that Narcissa did catch was that the guys knew since they were thirteen. Lucius knew this whole time? She had conversations with him, never anything interesting of course, but he knew and made absolutely no effort to even become friends with her? She looked to Bellatrix listening lightly to what she was saying.
She didn't really need to hear about Bella's sex life, nor wanted to, normally Bella only told Andromeda the dirty details. She shrugged lightly giving Bella a look. "I'm sure that will please Andromeda even more,"she said sarcastically. She looked around a moment before turning back to her, "Well. You're happy about this... I'm alright with it... Andromeda is going to flip, but besides that.. I think our parents did a decent job, although they should have told us."She said calmly.

The thought of refusing the betrothal never even crossed Bellatrix' mind. Of course, this was partially do to her affinity for Rabastan Lestrange as a close friend and much more than that, but mostly was out of respect for Cygnus and Druella. Anyone who had only seen Bellatrix at school would believe for a minute that she was a charming and obedient proper young woman around her parents, but Bellatrix had been endowed with this strange quasi-virtue since she was a small child. Any authority figure whom Bellatrix respected (which currently consisted of her parents and the parents of her friends, though she'd never spent much time around them and would eventually of course, become dominated entirely by Lord Voldemort), was in her mind, to be obeyed without question. Luckily for her sake, the boys had only briefly seen her with her parents and probably just assumed that it was all an act.
Bellatrix really ought to be mad at the boys for not telling her. After all, she spent nearly everyday at Hogwarts with them. There were countless opportunities in which it could have been mentioned. Finding out while Rabastan had one hand up her skirt in the middle of the bloody common room because Adela had to show up and complain about them was not how Bella wanted to find out.
"Oh she'll be positively thrilled," Bellatrix responded with a dark smile. "You know 'Dromeda simply loves to hear all the little details of my..." Bella momentarily trailed off as she searched for the proper word. Conquests wasn't right because it was generally one of a handful of guys who she just spent an inordinate amount of time with in various states of undress. "second favorite pasttime, the Dark Arts being first." Ah yes, that said a lot about Bellatrix Black.
Bella genuinely smiled when her younger sister said she was alright with this. "I'm glad you agree. I suppose they must have had some reasoning behind keeping it from us," she reasoned. Yes, sometimes Bellatrix was far too obedient for her own good. "Though you'd think since it's the boys' and Andromeda's last year they'd have decided to tell us. Especially now that Andy is of age." She frowned slightly and shrugged. "But they did do a bloody brilliant job of choosing husbands for us. It could have been so much worse."

Post by Rabastan Lestrange on May 3, 2008 21:48:27 GMT -5
The sun has long since dipped below the earth's horizon leaving the world in a dusky gloom as the air slowly cools the temperature dropping as the bewitching hours approach. Painted skies fade into uniform gray that most would cringe at but causes only a sense of adventure to settle in Rabastan Lestrange's conscience. His friends are no where to be seen; Malfoy disappeared a few hours back saying he had 'business' to take care of, his twin was either studying or with a girl Rab cannot be certain and Bellatrix, well, strangely he doesn't know where she went off to. Left to his own antics he goes a bit off the wall, the attention he craves no longer being provided.
Rabbit is not the type of boy to go on calming late afternoon walks and think about his day; what he did and what he could do to change that which he doesn't like. No, inner reflection is simply not his cup of tea. The teen is outdoors because he can be. Of course it could all be made better with the presence of a fairly cute girl. Or Bella, you know whichever he happens to have easier access to.
The metal padlock rests in his hand, he stares at it twisting his lips in disappointment. Leaning towards the metal the teen whispers a spell into the key hole. They really should make these things harder, the lock popping open allowing Rabbit to slip inside the Quidditch supply closet. Hogwarts staff is altogether too trusting sometimes hardly keeping their seventh years on track the Slytherins especially. At least they taught them well.
Grabbing the most expensive broom he can find stumbling round in the dark the boy is well aware what he is doing is simply spiteful. As a current member of the Slytherin Quidditch team he has his own broom, a very pricey one he would add. His fingers curl around the wood, covered with grip tape at the top in a nauseous gold and maroon indicating the worst of the four houses.
Taking to the air Rabastan swings around the castle's towers. Speed and height has always been a rush to him; this time speed being going fast and not the drug though both are reasonably addicting. Pushing further the boy slows down only as he approaches what he knows from past experience to be the girl's dorms. His arrival is greeted with only a few surprised screams and fits of giggles. Hufflepuffs; they really are under-estimated.
Curling back around Rabastan notices a few darkened figures down by the lake and his mind automatically jumps to conclusions. Taking a nose-dive he zooms past them once before swooping back, slowing down just enough to hold out his arm, grabbing Narcissa and pulling her up onto the broom alongside him before returning to the sky.

Narcissa listened to her sister but said nothing more. She had no idea what to say on the subject, her mind was not at ease. She was sort of worried in a way but not at the same time. She was in an altogether weird mood. She sighed lightly and pointed her gaze elsewhere, towards the sky.
She hadn't really been paying attention so when a broom zoomed by and someone grabbed her arm, she was a bit startled. It took her a moment to realize it was Rabastan. An odd look crossed her face. "What was that for?"she asked curiously, holding on to him rather tightly, as she didn't really like heights, and had never really been that good at flying. She could see Bellatrix down below, she looked awfully short. Narcissa gulped lightly, oh she hated heights.

Bellatrix was slightly concerned by Narcissa's silence but simply assumed that the other girl was just thinking about things. She would not push her to speak. Bellatrix understood that it was a lot of information to take in. She remained quiet, waiting for Narcissa to say something first in order to avoid agrivating her. She didn't think that it would really matter but she genuinely did care about Narcissa, whereas with Andromeda it would be all about pissing her off.
The older Black sister had fast reflexes but not fast enough to stop Rabbit without risking injuring her sister. Needless to say, Bellatrix was furious. Rab was one of her best friends but Narcissa and her safety would always come first. Bella did not know if Rabastan knew that Narcissa was not particularly fond of heights. "I'm going to bloody kill him," she growled as she stood up.
"RABASTAN XAVIER LESTRANGE!" she shouted, furiously. If she was in a better mood, she would have noticed that she sounded exactly like Druella when she screamed. "GET BACK HERE YOU BLOODY PRAT!" She was going to kill him. She had no other choice. No one messes with her sister. It didn't matter if he was her betrothed. He had about thirty seconds to bring Narcissa back. If that didn't happen, pretty soon he'd be six feet under and she'd be in Azkaban.
